As in medical applications dimensions reduction of implantable devices are of interest, periodic structures were used in substrate of the antenna to reduce the size of dual band miniaturized microstrip antennas even more. Designed substrate reduce the size to about 40%. The characteristics of miniaturized antenna with and without the periodic structure is compared and presented. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
