This article describes the design, the simulations, and the tests of a microwave launcher for alternative plasma‐heating schemes in the Flexible Plasma Trap (FPT). A waveguide‐phased array has been designed to tilt the wave injection angle: this will allow modal conversion to generate Electrostatic Bernstein Waves and then to obtain overdense plasmas. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
