This letter presents a wide‐slot monopole antenna loaded with a dual‐ring resonator for triple‐band operation, which can be applied for wireless local area network (WLAN) and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX). Multiband operation is realized by incorporating a fork‐like monopole, a wide slot, as well as a dual‐ring resonator. The desired lower bands of 2.4 GHz WLAN and 2.5 GHz WiMAX operations can be obtained by replacing the traditional ground with a wide‐slot ground. Then, with the addition of the dual‐ring resonator coupled fed by the fork‐like monopole, the middle resonate mode covering 3.5 GHz WiMAX occurs. In addition, an upper operation band, which is generated by the fork‐like monopole, can be further widened by the wide‐slot ground to cover the 5.2/5.8 GHz WLAN and 5.5 GHz WiMAX. A prototype of the proposed antenna with a compact size of 32 × 28 mm 2 has been designed, fabricated, and tested. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 58:1097–1101, 2016
