A dual band and dual circularly polarized (CP) microstrip antenna with low elevation gain improvement for China's Compass Navigation Satellite System (CNSS) is proposed in this letter. The nested structure patches fed by capacitive‐coupled discs to achieve the dual band performance. The dual CP performance is obtained by adopting a 3dB hybrid coupler. The key design is four copper sheets which are set up to improve the low elevation gain. Details of the proposed antenna design and results are presented and discussed. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
