In this article, it is proposed a model for multilevel polarization modulation tailored to Local Area Networks (LAN's), which exploits optical fiber intrinsic properties to obtain, with the same bandwidth, a higher single‐channel throughput with a reduced receiver complexity. This is achieved through a “fluid” constellation of confined bands. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 58:389–393, 2016
