A compact planar triple‐mode bandpass filter with meander line and central‐loaded stub is presented. In the design, by meandering the loop hexagon line, the size of filter is reduced efficiently. With the integration of central‐loaded line, additional transmission pole and zero are well excited and could be shifted easily. By combining of the additional mode and first‐order split degeneration modes of the hexagon resonator, a wide triple‐mode passband could be achieved. Moreover, the additional transmission zero is very close to the passband, which achieve a strong out‐of‐band rejection. The proposed filter operating at 2.45 GHz is fabricated and measured. The experimental results are in agreement with the simulation values on the whole. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 58:9–12, 2016
