In this article, the effect on radiation properties in a microstrip antenna through the use of different symmetries applied to structures based on photonic band gap is analyzed. The result obtained from computational simulation and measures of the constructed antennas shows a direct influence on the return loss. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
