This article presents a new circularly polarized (CP) focused microstrip antenna array working at 2.45 GHz. To focus the energy of the antenna array to a target point, a CP testing antenna is introduced and placed at the target point. The distribution of excitations for the antenna array can be obtained by maximizing the power transmission efficiency between the antenna array and the testing antenna, which can then be realized by a feeding network. Both simulated and measured results are presented to demonstrate the focusing and CP performance of the antenna array. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 57:2936–2939, 2015
