A multimode stub loaded resonator (SLR) is presented in this article. The proposed SLR can introduce four or five narrow passbands and has great flexibility to adjust the resonant frequencies. Due to the structural symmetry, the resonators are analyzed using even/odd mode method. Based on the analysis, two compact band‐pass filters (BPFs) with quad‐ and quint‐band responses are designed and good agreement between the simulated and measured results are observed. The quad‐band filter outperformances the other published ones and, to our best knowledge, the quint‐band BPF based on a quint‐mode resonator is the first one ever reported. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
