ABSTRACT Two wideband bandpass filters are designed and implemented by combining corrugated substrate integrated waveguides (CSIWs) and periodic structures, moreover, the novel CSIW is for the first time used for creating filtering devices. The CSIW performs similar to the traditional substrate integrated waveguide (SIW); however, it provides a completely floating conductor. As a result, active devices can easily be connected to the edge of the CSIW without using extra biasing chokes. With the help of the bandstop characteristics of periodic structures, such as defected ground structures (DGSs) and electromagnetic band gaps (EBGs), the proposed filters show wide passband, high frequency‐selectivity, and low insertion loss. The filters are fabricated and investigated, and the simulation results and experiment results are in good agreements. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 55:2665–2668, 2015
