This article presents design considerations of a tunable microwave filter integrated power divider based on highly anisotropic liquid crystals (LCs), which helps to reduce the circuit size. The proposed device comprising a thin LC layer between a ground plane and a directly coupled inverted microstrip line exhibits the equal power splitting function with a tunable bandpass response. The integrated device results in sharp rejection and smaller circuit area, as compared with the cascaded connection of an equal power divider and tunable microwave filter. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
