A new design of dual‐polarized dielectric resonator antenna with high isolation over a wide bandwidth is introduced, which is fed using the bowtie‐shaped slot coupling. Four identical bowtie slots are arranged symmetrically in an unconnected cross configuration in the center. The isolation between two orthogonal polarizations of the proposed antenna is greatly improved over the conventional cross slot. The proposed antenna prototype has been fabricated and measured. Both simulated and measured results show that the proposed antenna has a port isolation of about 40 dB over the impendence bandwidth (|S 11 | ≤ 10 db) of 28–30%.Moreover, stable radiation patterns and a peak gain of 5.0–6.4 dBi are achieved within the operating band. Its good polarization purity and broadside radiation patterns are confirmed also. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 57:2426–2429, 2015
