A circularly polarized bowtie‐shaped dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) excited by an asymmetric cross‐shaped slot, fed by a microstrip line has been proposed in this article. The proposed antenna structure achieves a 3‐dB axial ratio bandwidth of 7.4%. An impedance bandwidth of 43.8% has been obtained for circularly polarized bowtie‐shaped DRA. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 57:1723–1727, 2015
