ABSTRACT This article presents substrate integrated waveguide slot antennas with different slot shapes, in addition to an omnidirectional slot antenna. Simulation and experimental results compare very well. A comparison between the different slot shapes showed that the banana‐like shape may result in an increase in bandwidth and efficiency. The experimental loss bandwidth reaches as much as 400 MHz for that antenna with efficiency improvement of 40 MHz. The omnidirectional slot antenna demonstrated a gain greater than 3 dB with a 275 MHz bandwidth around 10 GHz. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 57:1511–1516, 2015
