ABSTRACT This communication introduces a new resonant structure called Deformed Omega Resonator. An equivalent circuit model is presented and its application in filters is demonstrated. However, its usefulness as a metamaterial unit cell is as important, thereby, it can be used for developing new types of metamaterials in future studies. With proper design parameters ensuring acceptable aspect ratio of elements for validation of applied formulas, the model seems flawless with less than 4% of error. The results have been experimentally verified and we observed their good agreement with the theory and simulation data. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 57:1447–1451, 2015
