In this article, a compact wideband U‐slot stacked rectangular microstrip patch antenna is designed. A low and high dielectric material combination are used to design the antenna which consists of commercial microwave substrates of Rogers TMM3 and Rohacell HF71 foam. The antenna return loss bandwidth is achieved 46.468%, centered about 4.885 GHz. The effect of parameters such as slot length and width are investigated over the antenna performance and experimentally verified. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
