A simple and compact printed band‐notched antenna operating at a frequency range of 3.1–22.0 GHz is presented for ultrawideband applications. The proposed antenna comprises a convex‐shaped patch embedded by an elliptic slot and a rectangular slot, and an additional rectangular patch, which is fed by a microstrip line and a partial ground plane with a rectangular slit. Several bandwidth enhancement techniques are applied in the antenna structure to broaden the bandwidth to a great extent. The overall size of the antenna is 36 × 33 mm 2 . The simulation and experiment results show that the proposed antenna achieves good impedance bandwidth of 3.05–22.5 GHz (the return loss less than −10 dB), with a band‐notched of 5.1–5.9 GHz. Furthermore, the proposed antenna also achieves stable antenna gain and radiation patterns. The measured results agree well with the simulated prediction. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
