This article presents the design of a multiband planar antenna on a flexible substrate for ISM (920 MHz/2.4 GHz) and WiMAX (2.5 GHz/3.5 GHz/5.8 GHz) operation. We use a J‐shaped ground connected with a stub and an L‐slot to obtain multiband resonances. The measured impedance bandwidths (S 11  ≤ −6 dB) of the proposed antenna are 900–970 MHz, 1.45–3.70 GHz, and 4.76–7.00 GHz, and the antenna size is 90 × 18 × 0.254 mm 3 . As the antenna is fabricated on a flexible substrate, the antenna characteristic does not change even when the antenna is bent. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
