A valuable insight is presented on obtaining high‐sensitivity third‐order autocorrelation trace in the wavelength and power regimes where both two‐ and three‐photon absorption of the detector should be considered. Theoretical analysis and experimental results are provided to discuss the limitations to the measurement sensitivity. By developing a new algorithm of harmonics detection, an approach is also proposed to improve the measurement sensitivity beyond our previous demonstration. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
