In this research, a microstrip‐fed triple‐band antenna is presented which is suitable for heterogeneous wireless communication systems. The radiating element of the proposed antenna consists of rectangular‐shaped ring antenna embedded with three vertical rectangular‐shaped strips. The proposed antenna is capable of generating triple widebands with three resonant modes having good impedance matching. Prototype of the proposed antenna has been designed, fabricated and tested on FR4 substrate. The overall size of the antenna is 24.85 × 27.39 × 1.6 mm 3 with volumetric size of 1.1 cm 3 . The parametric studies are being performed to understand the effects of rectangular‐shaped arm lengths L 1 , L 2 , and L 3 and gap between patch and ground plane and basic T, L, U and rectangular‐shaped ring on proposed antenna. The measured results show good agreement with the simulated results. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 56:2113–2117, 2014
