The effect of a simple rectangular ground slot in a microstrip line fed monopole antenna is presented in this article. The antenna is primarily designed for ultrawideband communication (3.1–10.6 GHz). Parametric analysis of the rectangular ground slot results in three single wide band (3.25–10.55 GHz, 3.21–5.835 GHz, 7.39–9.33 GHz) and two dual band resonant states (3.31–6.43 GHz, 6.93–7.34GHz and 2.27–2.5 GHz, 3.2–6.23 GHz) of the antenna. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
