The design and testing of a compact flower slot antenna suitable for WLAN and WiMAX operations is reported in this article. The antenna consists of a flower shaped slot which is fed with a 50‐Ω microstrip line terminated with a circular patch stub. The measured results show that it offers a wide, 115.2% fractional bandwidth (from 2.11 to 7.84 GHz). Moreover, desirable radiation performance characteristics, including relatively stable and omnidirectional radiation patterns, are obtained over this range. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
