A small sierpinski bowtie patch antenna with improved bandwidth is described in this article. With variation in ground plane geometry, the measured 10 dB bandwidth of the proposed antenna is obtained 62.7% compared with a bandwidth of 0.4% in the antenna without modified ground plane. By adjusting the ground plane size of sierpinski bowtie patch antenna, the proposed antenna area is reduced to a half of the traditional one and it can have still high gain and directivity. The designed antenna is simulated by electromagnetic simulation software HFSS 10.0. The results of simulation and actual measurements are in good agreement. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
