We report reduction of amplified spontaneous emissions in a continuously pumped fiber amplifier by using a Mach–Zehnder interferometer. A reduction ratio of over 25 dB in the total emission intensity was achieved by using the interferometer. We also measured the dependence of the emission spectra on the bias voltage. Time‐resolved emissions were observed in a dual‐amplifier system containing the interferometer as a time‐domain gate. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 56:590–594, 2014
