In this work, a circularly polarized conformal strip fed three‐layer hemispherical dielectric resonator antenna (HDRA) with parasitic patch is analyzed theoretically and experimentally. The effect of position of conformal strip and parasitic patch at first and third dielectric layer interfaces of three‐layer HDRA is investigated for impedance and axial ratio (AR) bandwidths. The optimized permittivities of the layers and conformal strip and patch locations are found for three‐layer HDRA to realize wide impedance and AR bandwidths. The antenna structure is analyzed using Green's function and method of moments approach. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 56:72–77, 2014
