In this article, a novel design method of broadband radar absorbing material is proposed. This method is based on orthogonal arrangement of complementary split‐ring resonator etched artificial magnetic conductors, which exhibit polarization‐dependent features. Owing to phase cancellation, scattering energy along the boresight is reduced over a wide frequency range. Measured results demonstrate that the frequency range of −10 dB RCS reduction spans from 7.38 to 10.47 GHz with the bandwidth up to 34.6%, validating the effectiveness of the method. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
