A novel compact coplanar waveguide‐fed printed antenna with three separate patches embedded by narrow slits is designed and analyzed for ultrawideband (UWB) communication applications, which can provide UWB, high gain, and multiresonant impedance characteristics simultaneously. The dimension of the proposed antenna is 50 × 50 × 0.3 mm 3 . The measured results agree well with the simulated prediction and show a broad bandwidth of 13 GHz ranging from 2.8 to 15.8 GHz with return loss less than −10dB. Furthermore, the proposed antenna gain ranges from 4.3 to 8.2dBi, which can achieve almost symmetrical radiation patterns. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 55:3023–3025, 2013
