An single‐mode‐fiber Mach–Zehnder interferometer by cascading two “double‐J” shape thinned core structures for simultaneous measurement of temperature and surrounding refractive index has been achieved. The “double‐J” shape thinned core structure is fabricated by fusion splicing two sections of single‐mode fibers with large lateral offset. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
