A multisleeve slot monopole antenna with coplanar waveguide fed is proposed for radio frequency identification (RFID) tag applications. The designed antenna with the size of 12 × 13 mm 2 including the FR‐4 substrate can operate at 5.8 GHz with the gain of 3.45 dBi in the measured bandwidth of 11.38%. Broadside and bidirectional E‐plane and almost omnidirectional H‐plane radiation patterns are observed. These properties with compact structure make the antenna suitable for 5.8‐GHz RFID applications. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 55:2918–2920, 2013
