A new implementation of the bidirectional eigenmode expansion and propagation technique for modeling Kerr‐nonlinear waveguide structures is presented. The technique uses the rigorous coupled‐mode theory in combination with the scattering‐matrix formalism. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 55:2628–2631, 2013
