The electrically coupled loop antenna is presented as a dual for the existing planar inverted F antenna (PIFA).The basic drawbacks of the PIFA are low radiation efficiency and high electric field in the near zone. The dual antenna has high radiation efficiency and low electric field in the near zone that makes it a good candidate for cellphones and implanted antenna applications. The antenna is designed and simulated using HFSS and the results are compared with the measured data. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
