In this article, a novel method is introduced to design a high efficiency and broadband reflectarray.Several techniques will be introduced for designing wideband reflectarray. First, by using fractal ring unit cell with 700° phase range; second, by smoothing phase tapering on reflectarray surface; and finally, by finding the optimum free reference phase and f/D ratio. Using these ideas, a 625 element array prototype of 25 × 25 cm 2 dimensions with 1 dB gain bandwidth of 12% and radiation efficiency close to 66% at 10 GHz is simulated and tested. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
