By coupling a fractal loop resonator onto the back of a loaded‐fractal loop monopole and a shorted loop, a new triple‐band USB dongle antenna has been achieved and presented. The proposed antenna supports WiFi (2.4–2.5 GHz and 5.15–5.875 GHz) and WiMAX (3.4–3.6 GHz) applications. The proposed triple‐band planar antenna consists of a loaded‐fractal loop monopole for the 2.4 GHz band, a shorted loop for the 5.5 GHz band, and a coupled fractal loop resonator for 3.5 GHz band. The antenna has a small size of 10 × 42 × 0.8 mm 3 , which is suitable for USB dongle. Good return loss and omnidirectional radiation pattern characteristics have been obtained in the all three bands. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
