In this article, a compact coplanar waveguide‐fed fan‐shaped monopole antenna for ultra‐wideband applications with dual band‐notched characteristics is proposed and studied. The antenna with fan‐shaped structure occupies a small size of 35 × 30 mm 2 . With a pair of arc‐shaped slots introduced on the radiating patch, two frequency‐notched responses at 3.5/5.5 GHz are obtained. The antenna structure is designed, fabricated, and tested. The band‐notched characteristics, VSWR, radiation patterns, gains within the operating band have been observed. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
