An elliptically tapered slot antenna fed by a tapered microstrip line ended with a sector‐shaped tuning stub for ultrawideband operations is presented. The antenna is printed on a circuit board with a low relative dielectric constant of 2.65. A T‐shaped shorting strip is used to improve directional radiation performance. The antenna achieves a measured impedance bandwidth from 3.25 to 12 GHz with the gain in the end‐fire direction up to 5.5 dB and a compact size of 27 × 40 × 0.5 mm 3 . © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
