In this article, a two‐dimensional (2D) metallic transmission screen with nonuniform rectangular holes that is able to focus spherical wave into one spot on the focal plane is proposed. The proposed structure consists of a monopole source, a focusing plane, and a detecting probe in an open‐ended rectangular waveguide. Full‐wave electromagnetic simulation and experimental results successfully demonstrate the 2D focusing capability of the proposed structure. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
