A novel method to solve eigenvalue problems using the finite elements method without DC modes is presented.The constraint condition is imposed only on the regions of the matrices that are ill‐conditioned improving the system conditioning and shifting the spectrum of the DC modes out of the region of interest. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
