An effective method is designed and miniaturized for ultra‐wideband (UWB) antenna in the form of planar monopole of circular shape. The antenna includes of a radiation path and an incomplete ground plane to achieve an UWB impedance matching and improve the high frequency radiation performances. Measured return loss of the printed antenna with this technique is less −10 dB from 3–11 GHz which covers the UWB range usable for multiband orthogonal frequency division multiplexing. Also this antenna has an omnidirectional radiation pattern and very good pattern stability over the operating band. The satisfactory results with such a simple plane and small size make this antenna a practical and profitable candidate for UWB wireless communications applications. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
