A novel configuration of microstrip three parallel‐coupled line structure is proposed in this letter. This new structure consists of only one section of three parallel‐coupled lines to design a compact ultrawideband (UWB) bandpass filter to obtain the Federal Communications Commission's spectrum mask. To create transmission zeros around the desired UWB passband, the middle line of the three coupled lines is extended and shortened to ground at one end. As a result, this filter significantly improves the selectivity of both edges of the UWB passband and the out‐of‐band characteristics. For verification, the proposed filter is designed, simulated, and fabricated where excellent agreement is obtained. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
