An implantable high gain/power quotient variable‐gain wideband low‐noise amplifier (LNA) suitable for capsule endoscopy application is implemented in a 0.25 μm silicon‐on‐insulator CMOS process. With a current‐reused topology and wideband matching network, the presented LNA exhibits peak gain of 13.8 dB, 2.3 dB noise figure, more than 1 GHz bandwidth and 5 dB gain tuning range with good input and output impedance matching. The LNA consumes only 1.8 mW DC power from a supply voltage of 1.5 V. An excellent average gain/power quotient of 6.8 dB/mW is achieved. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
