A novel wide‐stopband bandpass filter (BPF) with quasi‐elliptic response based on composite right/left handed transmission line (CRLH‐TL) is presented in this letter. Two compact CRLH‐TL resonators are utilized in the proposed wide‐stopband BPF. A magnetic cross coupling between the input and output ports is also used, which can generate three additional transmission zeros near the passband. Then, the frequency selectivity of the bandpass filter is greatly improved. The equivalent circuit method is used to analyze the mechanism of the magnetic coupling. A wide‐stopband BPF operating at 2.42 GHz is designed, simulated, and fabricated to demonstrate the performance of the proposed filter structure. The measured results show good agreement with the simulated ones. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 54:2494–2497, 2012; View this article online at wileyonlinelibrary.com.
