A method for reconstructing the convex scattering support of dielectric objects from near field data is presented. Two different strategies for solving the problem are discussed. The usual reconstruction of the convex scattering support is extended introducing a fast near field to far field transformation based on the analytical expression of an equivalent source in a circular domain. Results of both single and multiview approaches are shown. To evaluate the reconstruction capabilities, some quality parameters are introduced. Single view results could be subjected to detriment at some specific angles of propagation of the incident field, and this is related both to the angle of propagation and to the presence of sharp corners in the object. Multiview results always enclose the dielectric scatterers inside a scattering support smaller than the original investigation domain. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
