This article presents a novel multiband metamaterial structure named butterfly pattern resonator (BPR).The effective medium parameters of this metamaterial are extracted from the full‐wave simulation, which shows that two resonances are caused by different magnetic modes with negative effective permeability and one another resonance is caused by electric mode with negative effective permittivity. The experiment results from a waveguide measurement system verify the multiresonant characteristics of the resonator. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
