A passive tuner coupled with an impedance variator is designed to justify the radiation gain for the proposed patch antenna. The proposed structure includes three parts: a patch antenna, passive tuner, and impedance variator. Passive tuner is constructed with S‐shaped microstrip line etched on FR4 substrate. The impedance variator is designed with locating a same sized patch symmetrically to the patch of the proposed antenna for the reason of simplicity analyzing. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
