In this article, a simple and an efficient approach for antenna miniaturization of split ring‐loaded slot antenna fed by the CPW line has been proposed. It has been shown that the fundamental resonant frequency has been lowered considerably by properly loading a pair of split ring resonator (SRR) rings at the edge of the half‐wavelength slot. A 26% miniaturization is achieved in comparison to slot antenna without SRR loading. The radiation pattern is also seen to be unaffected by the presence of the SRR. The overall antenna size is 0.5λ 0 × 0.5 λ 0 × 0.017 λ 0 . © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 54:1907–1911, 2012; View this article online at wileyonlinelibrary.com.
