A novel and simple design of a coplanar waveguide‐fed dual‐band antenna based on a compact dual‐meander antenna is investigated for wireless local area network (WLAN) applications. The impedance bandwidths achieved can reach about 0.57 GHz (2.13–2.70 GHz) 23.7% at the center frequency of 2.40 and 0.55 GHz (5.20–5.75 GHz) 10.4% at the center frequency of 5.30 GHz. These characteristics meet the required bandwidth specifications of IEEE 802.11a/b/g. The peak antenna gains for the operating frequencies across dual WLAN bands are measured to be 6.30 and 5.16 dBi, respectively. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
