A novel printed antenna having dual frequency band‐notched functions for ultra‐wideband applications is proposed and studied. The antenna consists of a rectangular radiating patch with a staircase structure symmetrically in the bottom. With a pair of C‐shaped slots and a U‐shaped slot introduced on the radiating patch, two frequency‐notched responses at 3.5/5.5 GHz are obtained. And, good radiation patterns and gains within the operating band have been observed. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
