A planar monopole antenna with dual wideband resonance characteristics is presented that simultaneously satisfies wireless local area network (802.11 a/b) and Wi‐MAX applications. The proposed antenna structure consists of a rectangular monopole beveled at the base with a modified H shaped slot and occupies an area of 32 × 51.5 mm 2 . The measured realized gain is around 2.0 dBi in the lower band (2.35–2.80 GHz) and about 3.8 dBi in the upper band (3.28–5.95 GHz). © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
