A compact triple‐band antenna for wireless local area network/worldwide interoperation for microwave access (WLAN/WiMAX) applications is presented. The proposed antenna can generate three operating bands to cover 2.4/5.2/5.8 GHz for WLAN system and 2.5/3.5/5.5 GHz for WiMAX system using double self‐similar coupled ring elements. Measured results show that the proposed antenna has good omnidirectional radiation characteristics and enough gain across the operation bands retaining a compact size (25 × 38 mm 2 ) and a simple structure. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
