Abstract A novel design and development of simple monopole rectangular microstip antenna is proposed for ultrawideband (UWB) operation. The antenna operates from 4.80 to 15.82 GHz with a reject band of 4.90 to 7.16 GHz. The proposed antenna is constructed from conventional rectangular microstip antenna by placing ground plane of height 2.48 cm on the top of the substrate with a distance of 0.1 cm from the microstripline feed and a continuous copper layer of same height is placed below the microstripline on the bottom layer of the substrate. Experimental results are in close agreement with the simulated results. The proposed antenna may find application for UWB operation. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
